WASHINGTON – The first Landmark Conference Players of the Week included three Catholic University student-athletes, with the women’s soccer squad sweeping both the Offensive Player of the Week and the Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Cardinal freshman forward Lindsay Aleman was named the Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goalkeeper Lexi Halperin was named the Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Aleman tallied five points in her collegiate debut for Catholic. She came off the bench to give a spark to the Cardinals, scoring twice on two shots. Aleman wrapped up with an assist on the final goal of the game to lead Catholic to a 4-0 victory over Frostburg State.
Halperin notched six saves in the season opening shutout of Frostburg State. She anchored a defense that held 2012 All-American Adria Graham to just one shot for the game as Catholic earned the 4-0 win.
CUA senior forward Ian Smith was named the Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the week.
Smith scored once in each of Catholic's games this weekend. On Friday, Smith tallied the Cardinals’ first goal of the season in the 19th minute to cut Dickinson’s lead in half. He came back and scored the eventual game-winner on Sunday when Catholic hosted Greensboro.
