TOWSON, Md. - For the second-straight year, the Catholic University athletics department finished third in the Landmark Conference President's Trophy standings. The Cardinals' second-place finish is their highest since they won in 2015.
The Presidents' Trophy recognizes the conference's best overall athletics program. The Trophy is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for regular season conference standings as well as results in Landmark postseason competition. Points are assigned based on the regular-season standings and the number of teams competing in each sport. Bonus points are awarded based on competition in the Landmark playoffs.
Since its inception in 2007-08, Catholic has been awarded the Landmark Conference President's Trophy twice in 2013 and 2015 while finishing second in 2014.
The Cardinals averaged 7.44 points to finish third behind Moravian, who totaled 9.09 after winning conference titles in women's tennis, men's outdoor track and women's indoor track, and Susquehanna who had 7.53 points and a conference championship in baseball and second-place finishes in softball and men's lacrosse.
Women's lacrosse led the way for Catholic this spring, earning 15 points after capturing both the regular season and conference tournament titles. Women's golf totaled 10 points after finishing second in the program's first-ever conference championship. Softball garnered nine points by earning the second-seed in the conference tournament and knocking off 10th-ranked Moravian in an elimination game while baseball earned eight points after securing the third-seed in the Landmark Championship tournament.
