Cardinals Fall to Mules 13-8 on Spring Break

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Catholic University of America baseball team dropped its first 2017 spring break game to Muhlenberg College, 13-8, on Tuesday afternoon.

In a valiant effort to stay undefeated in Myrtle Beach the Cardinals scored eight runs but it would not be enough as they gave up 13 to the Mules.

Junior Jake Crist registered three hits during the nine-inning contest while driving in two runs. He began the Catholic scoring in the first inning when he drove home senior Brett Padula.

with a 2-1 advantage after the first, Muhlenberg maintained a steady lead through the top of the sixth inning with  8-5 lead. Three Cardinals came across the plate to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.

Senior Paul Burmester ripped a double to left field to score junior Brennan Cotter then junior Thien-Quoc Tran cracked an RBI single to bring in junior Danny O'Hagan. After Tran connected with the ball, Burmester came across the plate for the tying run on a throw to home.

The Mules batted in five runners in the seventh inning. Unable to rally, Catholic suffered its second loss of the year, bringing its overall record to 6-2.

Six Cardinals spent time on the mound with freshman Colin Cunningham opening the first 3.2 innings. Senior Mark Duffy and junior Jack Hennessy as well as sophomore Mason Belcher and freshman Eric Moore each threw from the rubber in relief. Senior Joseph Salzano closed his third game of the Myrtle Beach.
