Madison, N.J. - The Catholic University of America baseball team advanced to a nine-game win streak with a pair of victories over Landmark opponent Drew University on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals took game one with a final score of 4-3 and captured game two 7-3.

Catholic closer, senior Joseph Salzano earned two saves and now leads the Landmark in with four. Sophomore Collin Brown recorded the win for game one and his classmate Jon Mierzwa won game two. Mierzwa registered 10 Ks in six innings and now leads the conference in wins (5) and strikeouts (47).

The Cardinals started the series with back-to-back homers in the first inning of game one. With two outs on the board, junior Brennan Cotter cracked a two-run homer which scored fellow junior Jake Crist. Senior Paul Burmester stepped to the plate next and sent the ball flying over the fence to put the Cards ahead 3-0.

Drew answered with a run in the bottom of the inning then tied the game with two runs in the third.

Catholic freshman Connor Sullivan sent an RBI single down the left line for Cotter to score the winning run in the sixth inning.

The Catholic bats stayed alive in the game two as the Cardinals scored four runs in the first inning with another in the second and two in the third.

Cotter and sophomore Ryan Tracy each went 2-of-3 at the plate with two RBIs and one run in the second game.

Cotter recorded the first RBI after being walked in the first inning to score senior Wyatt Schmidt. Junior Danny O'Hagan followed with a sacrifice fly to bring in sophomore Bailey Lewis. Crist then scored on a Rangers fielding error and Cotter came home on a sac-fly from junior Alec Dolton.

An RBI single from Cotter in the second inning scored Schmidt and a two-run homer from Tracy in the third brought the Cardinals to seven runs.

The Cardinals and Rangers will close out the Landmark series in Madison, N.J., with a nine-inning game on Sunday, March 26, at 12 p.m.
