WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America baseball team dropped its midweek contest to No. 19 Johns Hopkins University, 4-1, on Wednesday.
Hopkins came across the plate early with two runs in the second inning. The Blue Jays increased their lead with a run in the fifth and senior Ryan Orgielewicz hit a solo homer in the eighth for their final run of the day.
Catholic's lone run of the event came in the third inning. With sophomore Ryan Tracy and senior Bo Williams in scoring positions, respectively, junior Jack Hennessy advanced the runners with an RBI, sacrifice hit to toward second base.
Sophomore Collin Brown pitched the opening 3.1 innings for Catholic and his classmate Mason Belcher relieved him for the next 2.2 innings. Sophomore Colin Cunningham threw in the seventh while junior David Gately took the mound in the eighth and fellow junior Sean Carroll closed for the Cards.
Catholic will stay in the nation's capital and head to Gallaudet University to take on the Bison on Thursday, March 30 at 3:30 p.m.
