Mierzwa & Burmester Earn All-Region Accolades

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America senior Paul Burmester and sophomore Jon Mierzwa were both recognized as All-Region honorees on Tuesday as the duo was tabbed by D3baseball.com as All-Mid-Atlantic Third Team selections.

Burmester and Mierzwa helped lead Catholic to its most wins in program history this past season with a 28-14 overall record and a Regular Season Landmark Conference Championship.

Burmester, who made the all-region team as a designated hitter, finished the year third in the conference with a .408 batting average and fourth in home runs with six blasts. The Columbia, Md., native was seventh in the league in RBIs (32) while he recorded 40 hits and 24 runs during the 2017 season. Burmester was an All-Landmark Second Team selection 

As Catholic's No. 1 starter, Meirzwa led the conference with eight wins for the 2017 season. Hailing from Laurel, Md., Meirzwa struck out 90 batters this year which ranked him 11th nationally in K's per nine innings and first in the Landmark. He sits second in the league with a 2.63 ERA over 65 innings pitched. He was an All-Landmark First Team honoree.
