Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Catholic University of America baseball team downed Penn College 9-4 to advance their overall season record to 8-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
Catholic junior Ryan Tracy went 3-of-4 from the plate to drive in two runs and come home once during the spring break triumph. Sophomore Cid Porter hit 2-of-3 with an RBI and two runs of his own while junior Bailey Lewis and senior Brennan Cotter each batted in two.
Sophomore Ross Dean threw five strikeouts in four innings before MJ Dziczkowski made his first career appearance to record the win. Dziczkowski gave up just one hit while tossing two Ks in three innings and sophomore Colin Cunningham closed the game with two strikeouts in the final two innings.
Tracy recorded Catholic's first RBI of the day with a single down the left line in the second inning, but the Cards trailed 2-1 after three innings.
Catholic rolled out a three-run fourth inning and five-run fifth inning while holding Penn College to just two runs in the eight for the win.
Porter and Tracy crushed back-to-back RBI-triples in the fifth inning to ensure the Catholic victory. With a 6-2 advantage, Hennessy bunted in Tracy before Cotter sent a single through the second base gap for Lewis and Hennessy to cross the plate.
Catholic looks to continue its win streak with a spring break matchup against Hampden Sydney on Thursday, March 8 at noon.
