WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America baseball team showed why it has one of the most potent offenses in the country on Sunday afternoon at Moravian, as the No. 19-ranked Cardinals put up a 22-2 victory on the scoreboard.
The Cards came out hot with a seven-run first inning and then exploded for 13 runs in the third.
Catholic totaled 19 hits as 11 different players got on base via the stick and six Cardinals with two-hit days.
Senior shortstop and leadoff hitter Jack Hennessy set the table for Catholic as he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Three-hole and designated hitter Jake Crist also did damage with a perfect 2-for-2 day at the dish with a solo home run, two RBI, two runs and two walks.
Crist and cleanup hitter Brennan Cotter accounted for six RBI as the first baseman went 2-for-3 with two doubles and came across to score three times.
Junior second baseman Ryan Tracy joined Cotter with four RBI afternoon's as he also went 2-for-3 with two runs and a double.
On the bump, senior Sean Carroll came on in relief and tossed 4.2 scoreless frames with five strikeouts for his second win of the year.
Catholic is set to start a five-game homestand this Wednesday, March 24, when the Cardinals host Washington College at 3:30 p.m.
