WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America baseball team fell 11-3 to Johns Hopkins in a Monday night matchup.
The Cardinals sent 10 hits into the field during the game including a double from junior Bailey Lewis in the third inning. Lewis went 2-of-2 with one RBI while his classmate Ryan Tracy batted 2-of-4 and came across the plate once.
Catholic senior Jack Hennessy recorded the first hit of the game as the Cardinals got off to a quick start in the first inning. Tracy singled next before senior Jake Crist took the first base on balls to put Hennessy and Tracy in scoring position with no outs.
Up next, Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week, senior Brennan Cotter sent an RBI-single to right field and Lewis was hit by a pitch as the Cardinals took at 2-0 lead. Later in the inning, Crist came home on a Blue Jays miscue for a three-run first inning.
Johns Hopkins answered with two runs in the second and a six more in the fourth while Catholic was unable to convert another run.
The Cardinals return to Robert J. Talbot Field to take on Hood College at 4 p.m., on Wednesday, April 11.
