Pikesville, Md. - The Catholic University of America baseball team advanced its 2018 record to 22-9 with a 10-6 victory over Stevenson University on Wednesday afternoon.
Catholic scored 10 runs on 18 hits as junior Ryan Tracy rose to the midweek occasion to record five hits in five plate appearances. Tracy cracked two doubles and batted in four runners in while he came across the plate twice. Junior Bailey Lewis and senior Jake Crist each added two RBIs while sophomore Connor Sullivan hit 3-of-5.
In the second inning, sophomore Connor Cozad reached home plate when he capitalized on a Mustang miscue before Tracy drove in fellow sophomore Will Pyne. Later, Lewis sent a single through the right side to bring in Sullivan in the fourth, but the Cardinals trailed 6-3 going into the final two innings.
Eager for the victory, Cozad took advantage of another Stevenson error to jumpstart a five-run rally in the eighth inning. With Sullivan and junior Sean Dempsey in scoring positions, Tracy lobbed a 2-RBI double to right field which tied the game at six.
Up next, Lewis earned first base when he was hit by a pitch then, the Mustangs intentionally walked senior Brennan Cotter to load the bases. Crist stepped to the plate and sent a 2-RBI single through the right side to give the Cardinals an 8-6 advantage.
A double from Tracy in the ninth drove in rookie Tighe Watson and Tracy then crossed the place on a single from Lewis to seal the victory.
The Cardinals return to the nation's capital to host a three-game Landmark series against Juniata College starting Saturday, April 21 at 12:30 p.m.
