WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America baseball team drop its Sunday afternoon game to Stevenson University, 8-2.
Junior Bailey Lewis hit 3-of-4 and scored both of the Cardinals runs during the event. He put Catholic on the scoreboard with solo homer over the left field wall in the second inning.
The Mustangs tied the game in the top of the fourth but the Cardinals battled with a run of their own in the bottom half. Lewis led off the fourth with a single past the shortstop. Later in the inning, sophomore Connor Cozad batted Lewis in and Catholic took a 2-1 advantage.
The Cardinals fell captive to Stevenson's bats in the final four innings. The Mustangs recorded seven hits and capitalized on Catholic miscues as they brought home seven additional runs to take the Sunday victory.
Catholic earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Championship Tournament. They are slated to take on No. 4-seeded Moravian College at 3:30 p.m., on Friday, May 11 at The University of Scranton.
