WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America baseball team was honored with two selections to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Teams, selected by CoSIDA. Senior Danny O'Hagan and sophomore Jack Ropelewski both earn the distinction for the first time.
The Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for the combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Both players now advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot with first-and second-team honorees announced in June.
O'Hagan, a Mathematics major with a 3.80 GPA, is an All-Landmark Conference player and a three-time league academic honor roll selection. A three-year starting catcher, he is a lifetime .334 hitter and has thrown out 36-of-70 base stealers.
A model of consistency, O'Hagan has posted at least 30 hits, 14 runs, a homer, 10 RBI and a .344 average in each of the past three seasons. This year he has posted career highs with a .354 average, 23 runs, 34 hits, 13 walks and a .443 on-base percentage.
Ropelewski, a Mechanical Engineering major with a 3.96 GPA, is one of the top relievers in the Landmark Conference as he is second in the league in wins despite not making a single start. He boasts a 10.55 strikeouts per nine innings mark, good for third in the league.
He has set career-highs across the board to help Catholic to its second-straight Landmark Conference regular-season championship. Ropelewski also boasts the highest GPA of any male sophomore student-athlete at Catholic University.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.
The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams.
