WASHINGTON — For the second-consecutive season, The Catholic University of America baseball stars, senior Brennan Cotter and junior Jon Mierzwa, have been selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) / Rawlings All-Region Teams. Cotter and Mierzwa were tabbed to the All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team and Third Team, respectively.
It is the second-straight day that both players have been recognized as the top players in the area with D3baseball.com honoring Cotter and Mierzwa as first and third team members, respectively.
Cotter, an All-Landmark First Teamer for the second-straight season, was the Landmark Tournament MVP. The first baseman posted a .370 batting average and a .676 slugging percentage. The Oakland, N.J., native set a new Landmark record for most RBIs in a season (70) and Catholic records for most home runs in a season (11) and most career home runs (19).
Mierzwa, who earned his second-consecutive First-Team Landmark honor, makes its year two on the all-region team as he was third-teamer last season. He went 4-1 on the year and added a save in the title-clinching game of the Landmark Championship Tournament. He struck out 81 batters in 60.2 innings pitched for a 12.02 strikeouts per nine innings mark.
The duo helped lead the Cardinals to Landmark Conference Regular Season and Tournament titles and a berth to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
