WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America senior pitcher David Gately has shown incredibly strong this summer at the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League (HCBL) as evidenced by his selection to the sixth annual HCBL All-Star Game.
The exhibition between the league's best took place at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, N.Y., on Monday and was preceded by a home run derby.
Gately has been one of the top pitchers in the league and has started for the Sag Harbor Whalers as one of six All-Star selections on the team.
Gately leads the team in innings pitched, starts, appearances and strikeouts to go along with a 2.70 ERA, two wins, 30 strikeouts and just nine walks over 33.1 innings. He ranks fourth in the HCBL in ERA and strikeouts.
The Baltimore, Md., native was one of just five Division III players to make the All-Star game with all other competitors coming from higher levels.
