Zachry Breaks Own School Record in Win Against Villa Julie

WASHINGTON--Senior designated hitter Drew Zachry (Cheverly, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt High) broke his own school record for hits in a season by going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs to lead Catholic University to a 7-0 victory against Villa Julie at DuFour Field on Wednesday.

Zachry, who eclipsed New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman's single-season hits record in 1998, collected his record 55th hit with an RBI double in the fifth inning. He later added a single to improve his batting average to .459 with five home runs and a team-leading 45 RBI. The 45 RBI and his 41 runs scored are also single-season records. If Zachry maintains his batting average over the remainder of the season, he will shatter his school Division III-record .415 batting average.

Junior right fielder Anthony Valach went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Cardinals, who improved to 19-14-1. He knocked in CUA's first run in the third, and Zachry hit a sacrifice fly to score junior second baseman Marc Marini and give the Cards a 2-0 lead. CUA freshman center fielder Chris Peregoy was 2-for-4 and drove in a run.

Cardinal sophomore Brandon Bowron (3-1) pitched a five-hit shutout, walked one and struck out four. Sophomore right fielder Casey Davis (Westminster, Md./Carroll Christian) was 2-for-4 to lead Villa Julie. Sophomore Christopher Zorn (Kingsville, Md./Perry Hall) pitched all the way for the Mustangs and scattered 12 hits.
