Salisbury 9, Catholic 4

March 14, 2002

WASHINGTON - Catholic dropped its second game in a row as Salisbury defeated the Cardinals 9-4 in a CAC game at Robert J. Talbot field Thursday afternoon. All of the Sea Gulls' runs were accounted for by five home runs.

Rob Kessekert opened the scoring in the top of the first with his three-run homer to left field. Catholic answered with a run in the second on a Daniel Conway (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Chaminade) groundout that scored Baha Azimirad (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill).

CUA (11-6-1, 2-2 CAC) chipped in three runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead but Salisbury would answer later in the sixth as Galen Morres hit a two-run opposite field homer to right to put the Sea Gulls back on top.

The Cardinals made things interesting in the bottom of that inning as Justin Siller (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) came to bat with the bases loaded with two outs. Salisbury's Scott Byers, who came in for winning pitcher Steve Frederick, was able to end the threat as Siller flied out to center.

Salisbury (12-1-2, 5-0 CAC) added a run in the eight on an Andrew Colanero solo shot to left, chasing CUA starter Adam Weiss (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Farmingdale). Weiss went seven innings, allowing seven hits, six runs, while striking out six and walking two, suffering his first loss of the season (4-1).

B.J. Jarrett and Jason Ewing added home runs in the ninth to round out the scoring. The two each had two hits.

Catholic returns to action Saturday as they travel to York (Pa.) for a CAC game at 1 p.m.
