WASHINGTON - Catholic could not hold a seven-run lead as Rochester Institute of Technology managed to rally and defeat the Cardinals, 16-12, Sunday afternoon at Talbot Field as the Tigers crossed seven runs in the top of the ninth.

RIT's Eric Hauser led the comeback going 3-for-5 with six RBIs including a three run homer in the sixth and a two run shot in the ninth. He also added a RBI double in the fourth.

Leading 12-9 after the seventh inning, Catholic reliever McClain Tini hit back-to-back batters with the bases full to force in two runs.

The Tigers took the lead in the ninth as Marty Maynard scored off a passed ball to lead 13-12. Two batters later, Hauser went deep to right field off of Bernie Dennis to add to the lead.

Freshman Kevin Conley was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. His two RBI double in the second inning gave CUA a quick 2-0 lead. Senior Billy Rue also added two hits with a run scored and two RBI's. His single in the third scored Tim Bottomly and Joe Benedetti that sparked a five-run inning and temporary 7-0 Catholic lead.

Starter Adam Weiss went six innings, surrendering 10 hits, six runs (four earned) while striking out three. RIT reliever Matt Knodel worked 6.2 innings to pick up the win.

Senior Todd Michalak smacked his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth.

Catholic returns to action on Tuesday as they play at Villa Julie at 5 p.m.
