WASHINGTON - Drew Robertson hit two of Mary Washington's five home runs as the Eagles downed Catholic, 8-3, in a Capital Athletic Conference game Thursday afternoon at Talbot Field.

Robertson was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three batted in as the third baseman went deep with a solo shot in the eighth and added a two-run blast in the ninth.

Catholic starter Adam Weiss got off to a rocky start as the Eagles crossed three runs in the top of the first. Robbie Wright cleared the left field fence with is two-run homer then two batters later, Jay Quintana made it a 3-0 MWC lead with his solo job.

The Eagles (10-4, 2-2 CAC) tacked on two runs in the fourth as Aaron Altscher hit a two-run homer.

The Cardinals finally got on the board in the sixth as senior Todd Michalak doubled to left center, scoring senior Dan Conway. The very next batter, senior Justin Siller, connected on his second home run of the season, an opposite field blast to cut the Eagle lead to 5-3.

Catholic (12-6, 2-3 CAC) threatened in the seventh as MWC reliever Brendan Orsinger found himself with first and second and two outs but ended the inning with a strikeout.

Weiss (3-2) went six innings, allowing 10 hits, five earned runs, and striking out three. At the plate, teammate Joe Benedetti and Kevin Conley each finished 2-for-4.

Mary Washington starter, Stefan Schoen (3-0) went 5.2 innings, giving up seven hits, and three earned runs while fanning six.

CUA returns to action tomorrow with a make-up of Wednesday's rainout with Villa Julie College here at Talbot Field at 3 p.m.
