Baseball Comes From Behind, Wins 7-5

SELINSGROVE, Pa.-- After falling behind five to two after six innings, a four run seventh lifted CUA to a 7-5 win over Susquehanna in the opening round of the Landmark Conference Tournament Friday morning.

Mike Goodman (Brookville/Sherwood) led the way with three hits and four RBIs, including the game winner, as CUA battled back and defeated No. 1 seeded Susquehanna University to earn a spot in the Landmark Conference Semifinal tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.

In the double elimination tournament, CUA battled the host Crusaders for a spot in the semifinal, but more importantly, would only have to play one game today with a win.  The teams were tied after 2 1/2 but a solo homerun gave the Crusaders a 3-2 lead and back to back walks followed by a single to right added insurance for the hosts.

It wasn't until the seventh inning that Cory Hudson (Beltsville/Gonzaga) hit a one-out double to left center that scored Tim Mierzwa (Laurel/Reservoir) that CUA got back on the board.  Joe Devine (Medford Lakes/Shawnee), after missing the final game of the regular season due to a hit by pitch in the head the day before, followed Hudson's double with a single to right and then swiped second base grabbing his 11th base of the year.  Goodman then hit a shot through the middle that found its way to centerfield and allowed both Hudson and Devine to score.

CUA added one more in the top of the ninth as Hudson singled to the shortstop and then advanced on a wild pitch.  Goodman belted another single to left and scored Hudson.

CUA will now await the outcome of the second game at the tournament and will face the winner of No. 2 Moravian and No. 3 USMMA who are currently underway.  The teams will meet Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with the winner moving out to the Championship game to be played at 4 p.m. Saturday.
