Cordivari, Dunn take part in ODAC Football Media Day

WASHINGTON – The 2012 football season officially got underway on Friday with the ODAC's annual Media Day, which took place via teleconference.  Seventh year head coach Dave Dunn was joined on the call by All-American quarterback Greg Cordivari.

"We feel really good about where we're at," Dunn said during the teleconference.  "This is the most experience we have coming back since I've been here.  We have 19 starters returning, including all 11 on offense.  It's also one of the older teams we've ever had, with 27 seniors."

"Coming into my senior season, I'm excited about it," Cordivari explained.  "We have a lot of good receivers coming back and our offensive line is going into its second year together so I think we have a strong group overall."

Also on Friday, the ODAC preseason poll was announced.  Reigning conference champion Hampden-Sydney was selected first with 46 points and four first place votes, followed by Randolph-Macon with 44 points and Washington and Lee with 37.  Bridgewater checked in at number-four with 32 points, followed by Emory & Henry (23), CUA (20), and Guilford and conference newcomer Shenandoah, who tied for seventh with 11 points each.

CUA won its most games since 2008 last season and returns seven All-ODAC selections for this season.  The Cardinals were fourth in the nation in passing offense a year ago, averaging more than 328 yards per game through the air.

"I think we need to finish better and that's the point we've been stressing.  The older guys understand that a little bit more than the younger group.  Last year our team was so young, we were just trying to survive week-to-week.  So that's been the point we have been making with our team going back to last spring."

CUA reports for preseason camp on Friday, August 10 and the Cardinals begin their 2012 campaign on Friday, August 31 when they play host to McDaniel.  Kick-off from inside Cardinal Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
