CUA Football Announces Fall Slate

2014 Schedule

WASHINGTON - Catholic Head Football Coach Dave Dunn announced the fall 2014 football schedule on Friday, March 7.  This season features six home games, which will all take place on Saturday and four road contests.

For the fourth consecutive season, the Cardinals open the year with McDaniel, this season's matchup takes place at Cardinal Stadium.  Last season's 48-16 win on Green Terror's home field marked the fourth consecutive season-opening win.

After a weekend off from action, CUA returns to Cardinal Stadium to welcome Newport News Apprentice School on Saturday, Sept. 20.  The last time these two schools met on the gridiron was 2011, when Catholic won 24-15.

The first road contest of the season takes place at Anna Maria on Saturday, Sept. 27.  During last season's homecoming contest, the Cards thrashed Anna Maria 49-0 for the program's first shutout since Oct. 7, 2000 against Washington & Lee.  The Cardinals tallied record-breaking numbers in four categories: first downs (34), yards rushed (303), yards passed (345), and total offensive plays and yards netted (90/648).

CUA returns home on Saturday, Oct. 4 to face Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Hampden-Sydney.  The Tigers were the first team to defeat Catholic with a 39-27 loss in 2013.

The second conference setback came from Randolph-Macon, who the Cardinals will take on under the Friday night-lights on Oct. 10 in Ashland, Va.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, Shenandoah heads to the Nation's Capital.  Catholic beat the Hornets 37-7 on a season-best 199 yards rushed and three touchdowns by senior standout Michael Pitsenberger.

CUA wraps up ODAC conference road action at Emory & Henry on Saturday, Oct. 25 and Guilford College on Saturday, Nov. 1.  Despite a fourth quarter offensive surge from the Cardinals, E&M defeated CUA 17-15, while a 38-29 win over Guilford for senior day snapped a two-game losing streak.

The Cards close out the conference slate at Cardinal Stadium with Washington and Lee and Bridgewater (Va.) College.  On Saturday, Nov. 8, CUA looks shatter a W&L's six-season success streak, last season the Generals edged Catholic 14-10.   The Cardinals season ending 42-19 win over Bridgewater snapped a 13-game losing streak.
