WASHINGTON – Just a 100 days away from the start of the 2017 season, The Catholic University of America head football coach Mike Gutelius has announced the Cardinals' schedule for his first year at the helm of the program.
Catholic opens 2017 on the road at McDaniel on Saturday, September 2. The last two meetings between the two teams have come down to the final minute with the Cardinals winning both.
"We are looking to a new era for Catholic University Football," said Gutelius. "It is a season of firsts, both for myself as the head coach here at Catholic, as well as our first season in a new conference. We welcome both the challenge and opportunities that our 2017 schedule presents."
The Cardinals have their home opener the next week when they welcome Utica to Brookland on Saturday, September 9. Catholic then rounds out nonconference play against Randolph-Macon on Saturday, September 16.
The Cards cap a three-game homestand and begin their first-ever season in the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) on Saturday, September 30, against MIT.
"I believe it's fitting that our first season in the NEWMAC is also my first season back at Catholic as its head coach," said Gutelius. "The chance to forge new rivalries while being able to play in area we have predominately recruited is an exciting change for us as a program."
Catholic plays its final seven games against Conference foes which include home contests at Cardinal Stadium against WPI (10/7), and Norwich (10/28). Road matchups feature Coast Guard (9/30), Springfield (10/21), Merchant Marine (11/4) and Maine Maritime (11/11).
