Davenport, Kern & Vidal Make CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America football boasted three selections to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team as seniors Brook Davenport, Luke Kern and Patrick Vidal all earned the distinction.

It is the second-consecutive season that all three honorees have been tabbed to the prestigious team.

Davenport, a mechanical engineering major with a 3.59 GPA, has protected the blindside for Catholic over the past two seasons. The starting left tackle has played every game over the past two seasons and helped the Cardinals to the No. 1 passing offense in the NEWMAC this year.

Kern, a biology major with a 3.76 GPA, was selected to the All-NEWMAC First Team yesterday. The strong safety was the leading tackler in the conference and ranked 20th nationally with 63 solo stops. He was also second in the country with five forced fumbles in 2017.

Vidal, a nursing major with a 3.49 GPA, is a two-time all-conference performer after he made the All-NEWMAC First Team. A dominant force on the defensive line, he was fourth in the league with 82 tackles despite playing in the trenches. was twice selected as the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week as well as two selections to the D3football.com Team of the Week.

All three Academic All-District honorees now advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in December.

The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes that are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools, and other affiliations.

The Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 DII and DIII Academic All-America teams.
