WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America football team boasts four seniors who will play in Bowl Games this month. Linebacker Nick Della Jacono will compete in the DIII Senior Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on December 16, while punter Andrew DiNardo, safety Luke Kern and defensive lineman Patrick Vidal head to Daytona, Fla., head to the National Bowl Game on December 10.
The Senior Classic is in its ninth season and has been highly successful and is one of the premier postseason scouting opportunity for all of DIII Football. It has attracted the best football players DIII football has to offer for the past eight years, boasting rosters that are consistently 82-percent All-American.
The National Bowl will be played at Daytona Municipal Stadium in Daytona. The game features the best NCAA Division ll and Division lll college athletes and is heavily scouted by the NFL and CFL.
Last year saw 14 NFL Teams, 5 CFL Teams, and over 30 scouts present. More than 250 players have gone pro from East Preps/ SPIRAL Bowls and combines since 2009. SPIRAL also puts on the premier FCS Bowl in Daytona National Bowl weekend and the SPIRAL Tropical Bowl each January featuring top FBS seniors.
Della Jacono, a NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team selection, was one of the most consistent players in the league as both a linebacker and game captain. He was second on the team and the league with 88 tackles. He finished a career-best season with four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.
DiNardo, who was recently selected as a D3football.com All-Region Third Team honoree, ranks as the nation's leading punter with a 46.5 yards per punt average. He boomed a long of 65 yards this season and put 16 of his boots inside the 20-yard line. A First Team All-NEWMAC selections, he was also picked as the D3football.com Punter of the Week on September 12.
Kern, also a D3football.com All-Region Third Team selection, was the NEWMAC's leading tackler with 103 stops on the season and the only player to eclipse 90 total tackles. A First Team All-NEWMAC honoree and a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, his 6.3 solo tackles per game rank 20th in the nation. He also ranks second in the country with five forced fumbles on the season.
Vidal, the Cards third All-Region Third Teamer, was one of the most dominant defensive lineman in the country as he ranked fourth among down lineman in tackles. The First Team All-NEWMAC player ranked fourth in the league with 82 tackles. A CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, he racked up 15 tackles for loss, fourth-best in the league and rounded out a stellar campaign with four sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two pass breakups. Vidal was twice selected as the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week as well as two selections to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
