WESTMINSTER, Md.-- After leading for much of the second half, CUA football fell to McDaniel College 21-17, Saturday.

Dylan Knight led the aerial attack going 6-15 for 117 yards while Rich Barry led the ground game netting 142 yards on 23 carries for the Cardinals.

Thomas Massucci was 17-35 for 198  yards and 1 TD leading McDaniel their first victory over CUA since 2006.

The Green Terror got on the board first with a 7-play, 56-yard drive that was capped with a two-yard run by TJ Devlin.  CUA immediately responded with a 3-play, 54-yard drive that consumed only 37 seconds off the clock to even the game at 7-7 with 9:55 remaining in the second quarter.

McDaniel scored again with 2:21 left, and CUA again responded with a score, this time a 29-yard field goal.  The Green Terror took the ensuing kickoff to their own 19 but drove down the field in the final minute of play only to be picked off by Avatus Stone in the endzone as time expired.  McDaniel led at the break 14-10.

The Cardinals, pinned back on their own 1-yard line, drove 99 yards in only six plays, to take a 17-10 lead on a 7-yard run by Rich Barry.

CUA held that advantage until just before the two-minute mark of the fourth quarter when McDaniel drove 50-yards on 11 plays to take a final 21-17 lead.

The Cardinals finished with 426 yards of total offense (223 rushing, 203 passing) and gained 21 first downs.  Avatus stone finished with seven tackles and an interception while Dwight Jones finished with six stops.  David Boone and Vinnie Cortese each finished with a sack.

CUA will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, as the Cardinals will return home to Cardinal Stadium to take on Randolph-Macon for the first game of the 2009 ODAC schedule.
