Brian Zyglocke is in his eighth season as the Defensive Coordinator for the Cardinal football program, where he also serves as the CUA Strength and Conditioning Coordinator; this will be his first season as the assistant head coach.  Coach Zyglocke joined the staff in 2007 from McDaniel College where he led the Green Terror defensive backs for two seasons while receiving his master’s degree in sports administration.

Zyglocke's 2013 defense produced All-ODAC First Team defensive linemen Anthony Albanese along with Second Team linerbacker Conor Stueckler and defensive back Mike Skehill.  That same defense led the ODAC in scoring defense only allowing 18.2 points per game.  They were also first in passing defense and second in overall defense.

Since joining CUA, Zyglocke’s defense has seen 15 players receive All-Conference recognition, including Nick Olivero who was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year in 2008.  During the 2008 season, CUA’s defense finished 11th in the country in turnovers and 16th in sacks, while leading the ODAC in passing defense, pass efficiency defense, interceptions, and sacks.

Zyglocke’s 2009 defense held opponents to only 161 passing yards per game, which was second best in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and top-35 nationally.  In 2011, three of his defenders received all-conference recognition, including James Fucillo who went on to be named to the All-South Region Team.  The 2011 defense was tops in the ODAC in pass defense, allowing just 172 yards per game.  In 2012, a much improved defense led the ODAC in forced turnovers and improved nationally in rushing defense and scoring defense.  Four Cardinals from the 2012 unit were honored for their performance with all conference recognition.

In his 14 years of coaching, Coach Zyglocke has recruited many outstading student-athletes.  Among them have been 22 all-conference performers, three all-Americans, seven all-region selections, two conference players of the year, and one Aztec Bowl participant.

Coach Zyglocke was an inside linebacker and two-year starter at Ferrum College in Ferrum, Va., where he led the 12th ranked defense in Division III during his senior year.  He graduated with a B.A. in history and stayed on with the Panthers as the wide receivers coach and then inside linebackers coach until 2005.  During that time Zyglocke coached four all-conference performers and one defensive player of the year, who also played in the 2004 Aztec Bowl.

Coach Zyglocke resides with his wife, Kasey, and their son, Henry in Burke, Va.
