WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America field hockey program was honored with a major award and five selections to the All-Landmark Conference teams. Junior back Kelly Cousoulis was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year while the Cardinals had four first team and one second team selections.
Cousoulis, who earns her first major award and all-league selection, started every game for the Cardinals this fall, helping the team allow just two goals in conference play this year for a conference-leading goals against average of 0.29. She earned Landmark Defensive Athlete of the Week twice this year, and finished the season with three goals, two assists, and three defensive saves.
Scott earns her third-straight appointment to the All-Landmark First Team. Tabbed as the only active member of the Landmark All-Decade team, she will go down as one of the best goalkeepers in conference history. She won seven games this year with three shutouts, stopping 63 shots.
Day, the team's leading scorer, earns first team honors for the second-straight year. She ranked third in the conference with 13 goals and 29 points. The junior had three game-winning goals on the year and was recognized as both a Landmark Player of the Week and National Player of the Week, honorable mention, selection.
Adams, the 2015 Landmark Rookie of the Year, proved again that she is one of the best young players in the league, being tabbed to the top team in the conference. The midfielder earned three points on the year with a goal and an assist, making 14 starts. She also added a defensive save.
Martinelli made the second team for the second-straight season. The two-way player did it all for head coach Heidi Lewis, starting all 17 games. She scored twice and added two assists. Martinelli also registered one game-winning goal.
