WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic University field hockey team was recognized for their accomplishments this season as the Cardinals earned two major Landmark Conference awards and five First-Team selections.
Head coach Heidi Lewis, who led the Cardinals to their second-straight undefeated conference season, was selected as the Coach of the Year and junior Nicole Tsiaras earned Defensive Player of the Year after her impressive season recording 11 defensive saves and leading the Cardinals to five shutouts this season.
Lewis has made a huge impact on the program in her three seasons at Catholic. She currently holds the highest winning percentage in program history with an impressive 71.4%. Lewis has led the Cardinals to an outstanding overall conference record of 20-1 and three Landmark Conference tournament appearances.
Tsiaras was joined by four of her teammates as All-Landmark First Team selections. Senior Hannah Schied, senior Lane Adams, sophomore Meghan Shallow, and freshman Grace Jung were all recognized for their performances this season.
Tsiaras has been a vital member of the Cardinals' defense. She has played in a total of 51 games over the past three years and has recorded a total of 18 career defensive saves.
Shallow started all 17 games for the Cards this season. She led the team in goals, tallying six, three of which were game-winners. Shallow was recognized as the Landmark Offensive Player of the Week on October 29, 2018.
Adams is now a four-time All-Landmark First Team honoree. She played a dominant role in her four years as a Cardinal. She has played in every game since coming to campus, recording 28 total career points. Adams will play in one more game on November 15 as she was selected to play in the 2018 Division III Senior Game.
Schied earns her first All-Landmark First Team honor after recording four goals and two assists this season. She has been a positive role model on the team as a three-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad, and the NFHCA Scholar of Distinction in 2016.
As a freshman, Jung started 16 of the 17 games for the Cardinals defense this season. She tallied two goals on three shots to mark an impressive .667 shooting percentage. Jung was recognized as the Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week on October 29, 2018.
