Catholic 3, Villa Julie 2 Oct 2, 2003

WASHINGTON --- Sophomore Jamie Punyko (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) scored twice, including the game-winner with less than five minutes to play in regulation to lift Catholic to a 3-2 win over Villa Julie Thursday afternoon in non-league action.

The Cardinals (3-3) built a 2-0 first-half lead on two quick goals by sophomore Christy Engstrom (Phoenixville, Pa./Spring Ford) and Punyko just over a minute apart midway in the period.

But the Mustangs (3-4) answered in the second half as Dawn McFarland scored the first of her two goals in the 62nd minute. Catholic was penalized with a penalty stroke a minute later where McFarland buried her second on the day beating CUA keeper Erin Swift (Middletown, N.J./Red Bank Catholic).

Swift recorded two saves on the day while VJC keeper Jacqui Healy posted eight.

The Cardinals outshot the Mustangs, 15-4.

Catholic returns to action on Sunday, October 5th with a non-conference matchup at Roanoke College at 1 p.m.
