WASHINGTON, D.C. (Nov. 7, 2005) -- The Catholic University field hockey team will face McDaniel College in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament at DuFour Field this week.

The Cardinals (10-6, 3-2) received the invitation after falling 3-1 to Salisbury University, the 2004 defending national champion, in the Capital Athletic Conference championship match on Saturday. This marks the second time the Cardinals have entered into post-season play; in 2001, the team hosted the ECAC Mid-Atlantic semifinal and final rounds as the #1 seed and emerged as runners up.

This year, the Cardinals received the #4 seed in the eight-team field and face #5 McDaniel after canceling their regular season game under poor weather conditions. McDaniel (11-7, 7-3) most recently fell to Gettysburg College 3-2 in overtime in the Centennial Conference semifinals. McDaniel last appeared in the ECAC tournament in 2003.

The other teams in the tournament are #1 Gettysburg College, who lost to CUA 2-0 on the road on Sept. 14, #2 King's College, #3 Kean University, #6 Franklin & Marshall College, #7 Hartwick Colllege and #8 SUNY Oneonta.

The CUA-McDaniel game will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at CUA. The victor will face the winner of the Gettysburg-Oneonta matchup at the highest seed on Saturday, Nov. 12. The final will be played on Nov. 13 at the same site.
