
WASHINGTON – Following a fast start to the 2010 season,
junior Mary Swarthout was rewarded by the Landmark Conference on
Tuesday as she was named the Field Hockey Offensive Player of the
Week. In three games last week Swarthout totaled 14 points on
six goals and two assists as CUA raced out to a 3-0 start.
In the Cardinals’ season opening 13-0 win over Virginia
Wesleyan on September 1 Swarthout netted a hat trick and also
handed out one assist. The junior nursing major scored two
goals in the game’s first ten minutes as CUA hung a
school-record 13 goals on the Marlins.
Swarthout then scored one goal and added an assist in CUA’s
5-0 shutout over McDaniel on September 4. The very next day
the Maryland native scored two goals in the Cardinals’ third
straight shut out, a 5-0 victory at Randolph-Macon.
Swarthout and the rest of the Cardinals return to action on
Friday, September 10 when they travel to take on Washington &
Lee under the lights. The game is slated to begin at
7:00.
