Men’s and Women’s Soccer to compete in 2009 NCAA Tournament

Both the CUA men’s and women’s soccer teams will compete in their respective Division III NCAA tournament starting on Saturday November 14th.

The women's team will play the Lynchburg Hornets at 1:30 p.m. at Washington and Lee University.  The Cardinals reached the tournament after defeating Susquehanna 1-0 to capture their first Landmark Championship title.  Head coach J.P. Sousa is leading the Cardinals to their second NCAA Tournament in the past five years.  The Lynchburg women's team is currently ranked 21 in the country with a 14-3-3 record while CUA is ranked 25.  The Cardinals look to get revenge on the Hornets, who ousted them from the 2005 NCAA tournament.

The men's team will also take on Lynchburg but at 5 p.m. at Christopher Newport University.  The Cardinals punched their ticket to the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Scranton in the Landmark Conference Championship game.  This is the first time the men have reached the NCAA tournament under head coach Travis Beauchamp.  The Hornets won the ODAC Championship and are currently ranked 19 in the country.  This marks the first time the two teams have met since 1998.  In their previous four matches Catholic has a 3-0-1 advantage.
