CUA to Host Three Landmark Conference Playoff Contests
WASHINGTON-- It will be a full afternoon and evening of contests this Wednesday as the CUA athletic staff will host three contests throughout the day. The women's soccer, field hockey, and volleyball teams have each earned the honor of hosting a playoff contest this fall.
The afternoon will start with a women's soccer match at noon as the Cardinals will host Scranton. The women's soccer team earned the #1 seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs after a 3-2 overtime win over Moravian. Kelly Donnelly scored the game winner on a bicycle kick less than two minutes into the overtime session.
Following the women's soccer match will be field hockey at 3 p.m. CUA will host Susquehanna in a match up that pits the #2 seed against #3. The Cardinals reached the Landmark Conference playoffs with an 11-5 overall record, and going 5-1 in the conference. The only loss came in a 2-1 decision to Juniata. That game was played at Susquehanna after the Juniata field was deemed "unplayable."
Wrapping up the evening will be the women's volleyball team which will host USMMA at 7 p.m. CUA defeated USMMA earlier this season, 3-0, but as the #3 seed CUA must face the Mariners who finished #6 in the standings to advance to the semifinal round. The Cardinals finished the regular season with an overall record of 23-12 going 4-2 in the conference. CUA's lone losses in conference were to perennial powerhouse Juniata and to Susquehanna earlier this season.
