Catholic University Department of Athletics Welcomes Germain, Williams

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America Department of Athletics added two members to assist in the everyday functionality at the Cardinal administrative level.  Ariel V. Germain joins the staff as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications, as Angie Williams (formerly Angie Zeuch) is now the Assistant Athletic Director/Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.

Germain spent the 2012-13 season as the Assistant Director for Athletic Communications at Howard University, where she was the primary contact for 17 of HU’s 19 sports, launched a new athletics website and assisted with various marketing initiatives.

Prior to relocating to the District of Columbia, she spent three years at North Carolina Central University.  At NCCU, Germain served as the Assistant Sports Information Director for two years and a graduate assistant within the department for one season, she was the primary contact for volleyball, women’s basketball, softball and men’s and women’s tennis. 

Germain joined the NCCU Sports Information Department following 11-month stint as the Academic Support Assistant and Compliance Intern at NCCU.

As a “double Eagle,” she completed graduate level course work in athletic administration.

In December 2006, Germain earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications with an emphasis in journalism and a minor in English literature from North Carolina Central University.  

While at NCCU, Germain was a member of the women’s volleyball team.  From 2002-05, Germain was named to the 2002 All-Rookie Team, 2nd team All-Conference (2002-03), 1st team All-Conference (2004-05).  As a setter, she led her team to two back-to-back Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships.  Germain still holds the career setting record at NCCU with 4036 assists.

Williams, will enter her second season as an assistant women’s basketball coach with the Cardinals. In addition to her coaching duties, Williams will enter her first year as the Assistant Athletics Director/Recruiting Coordinator.

Williams began her time at CUA in 2012, as an admission counselor for the 2012-13 academic year and an assistant women’s basketball coach.

Prior to joining CUA, Williams was the head coach of the Thiel College in Greenville, Pa., for three seasons.  While at Thiel, Williams’ Tomcats saw continued growth during her tenure, highlighted by the 2011-12 squad that posted the highest win total for the Tomcats in the Presidents Athletic Conference (8) since the 1987-88 season.

Prior to her stint at Thiel, Williams spent two seasons as an assistant at Wesleyan University in Middleton, Conn. During her time with the Cardinals, Williams was responsible for recruiting and scouting while assisting with administrative and on-court duties.  She also served as an assistant director at the school’s collegiate basketball camp.

Additionally, Williams also spent three years (2004-07) as an assistant at Division I Colgate University where she assisted with player development, practice and game planning, coordinated the team’s conditioning program, and handled aspects of recruiting and scouting activities.

A 2004 graduate of Case Western Reserve University, Williams was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Spartans and was named All-University Athletic Conference (UAA) as well as Academic All-UAA on three occasions. A 1000-point scorer during her career, she was named the college's female athlete of the year as a senior and served as chairperson of the Athletic Captains' Council.

Williams and her husband Damien, who is an assistant coach for the CUA men’s basketball team, reside in Bethesda, Md.
