Men's Soccer Shuts Out St. Mary's (Md.)

WASHINGTON –The Catholic University men’s soccer team picked up a 3-0 win vs. St. Mary’s College (Md.) in non-conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Washington, D.C., at the CUA Soccer Field.

At 14:34 into the game, Ian Smith (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) notched the first goal for the Cardinals as he buried the ball that Hunter Horvath (Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll) flicked into the box.  The 1-0 advantage held until halftime as Catholic led 10-to-1 in shots over St. Mary’s.

Michael McCurnin (Newark, Del./Archmere Academy) opened up the second half scoring for Catholic, when he headed home a cross from Smith at the 60:11 mark. Earl Hamilton (Fort Washington, Md./Gonzaga) tallied the final score for the red and black as he took a pass from McCurnin and finished in the left corner to put the Cardinals up 3-0 for good.  

The Cardinal defense limited the Seahawks to just three shots for the game. Cam McGrory (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) registered two saves in the win.

For the game, Catholic held the advantage in shots (24-to-3) as well as corner kicks (10-to-1).

The Cardinals (4-2-1) return to action this Saturday, Sept. 21 when they travel to No. 16 Salisbury (5-1) for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
