Student-Athletes Honored at Annual Athletics Banquet

WASHINGTON- The Catholic University of America Department of Athletics held its annual Senior Banquet on Thursday, May 16 honoring all graduating athletes. In addition to every senior student-athlete being honored, the department awarded six honors to athletes for their accomplishments on and off the field.

Each student-athlete received a framed varsity letter and photo to commemorate their hard work and success over the last four years.

The Jone Dowd Role Model Award is given annually to the male and female student-athletes who exudes graciousness in victory, humility in defeat and rallies their peers to consistently compete at a high level in athletics and beyond.  This year’s winners were women’s lacrosse player Kelly Neligan and baseball player Beriah Smith.

The Outstanding Senior Athlete Award is presented to the male and female athletes who have made significant contributions to their respective teams. Each nominee played a key role in their team’s success over the past four years. This year’s winners were Laura Kinley (women’s cross country and track and field) and Mike Brennan (men’s soccer).

CUA’s final two awards given were the Donley and Harris Cup. Both are awarded to a male and female student-athletes who are regarded as outstanding leaders, athletes, and scholars who made a significant contribution to the campus and community. Two basketball players earned the Cup honors this year, Jill Woerner and Chris Kearney.
