Kearney named Landmark Conference Player of the Week

WASHINGTON – Senior Chris Kearney has been named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Kearney averaged 20.3 points on 62% shooting and grabbed 18 rebounds in No. 14 CUA’s three wins last week.  This marks the second time this season that Kearney has received recognition for his play after being named to the Team of the Week on November 20.

Kearney has had a terrific start to the season and showed no signs of slowing last week.  The Virginia native poured in 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting, to go along with five rebounds, four blocks and three assists in the Cardinals win over Haverford on November 26.

Two days later, Kearney sank 8 of 12 shots en route to 20 more points in CUA’s home opener against Frostburg State.  Kearney also totaled nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Kearney then ended his week with 21 points on 8 of 13 shooting, in addition to four boards, an assist and a block in the Cardinals Landmark Conference opener at Drew on Saturday.

For the season, Kearney is averaging a team-leading 19.6 points on an impressive 60% shooting, as well as 7.2 rebounds and 2.6 blocks.

Kearney and the unbeaten Cardinals play twice this week, beginning with a showdown vs. DeSales University on Wednesday evening in Pennsylvania.  Start time is set for 8 p.m.
