No. 13 Cardinals look to wrap up top seed on Wednesday at Goucher

WASHINGTON - No. 13 CUA closes out a three-game roadtrip Wednesday evening when the Cardinals make the short trek to face Goucher. With only two regular season games remaining, the Cardinals are looking to clinch the Landmark Conference regular season championship and top seed in the upcoming conference tournament with a victory.

CUA fell to Scranton over the weekend by a score of 82-74. The Cards rallied from 20 points down to pull within two with 4:27 remaining, but were unable to come all the way back. Senior Chris Kearney notched his second 30-point game vs. the Royals this season, knocking down 13 of 19 shots along the way.

CUA leads the country in two statistical categories, ranking 1st in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.67) and fewest turnovers per game (9.6). The Cardinals have committed single-digit TOs 13 times this season, including seven straight games.

Kearney recorded the 200th block of his career at Scranton over the weekend. Kearney, who has led CUA in blocks in each of the last three seasons, is third in school history in blocked shots.

Senior Nate Koenig has done a terrific job on the glass recently, averaging 7.9 boards in his last seven. Koenig has pulled down double-digit rebounds three times during that span, registering the first two double-doubles of his career along the way. Koenig enters Wednesday ranked 9th in the Landmark Conference in rebounding (6.0).

Following each of its first two losses this season, CUA bounced back in a big way in the very next game. The Cardinals won those two games after losses by an average of 20 points, holding opponents to 52.5 points, while registering a rebound margin of +11 and a turnover margin of +6.

CUA has gotten off to slow starts in the first half of each of its last three games. The Cards have been outscored 112-103 in those three 1st halves, allowing teams to shoot 51.9 percent from the field and 60.7 percent from downtown.

Goucher snapped an eight-game losing streak over the weekend with a 61-57 victory at Drew.  The Gophers placed four players in double figures and held the Rangers to 33.3 percent shooting to earn their fourth Landmark Conference victory of the season.

Richard Harris leads the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game, while Trae Lindsay is the leading rebounder (7.5). Goucher has not beaten CUA since December 5, 2007, a span of 10 games.

CUA and Goucher are meeting for the 52nd time Wednesday with the Cardinals holding a 39-12 lead. CUA has won 10 straight vs. the Gophers, including a 72-46 last month in Washington.
