Dylon Cormier scored 23 points to lead Loyola University Maryland to an 87-75 victory over Catholic University at Reitz Arena in Baltimore on Wednesday night.

Franz Rassman added 14 points, Jarred Jones 13, Tyler Hubbard 11 and Jordan Latham 10 for the Greyhounds (5-2). The Division III Cardinals dropped to 3-2 in their first regular-season game against a Division I team in eight years.

Bryson Fonville paced the Cards with a season-high 19 points and career-best 13 assists. Steve Limberiou scored 11 points and Corey Stanford 10.

Tied at 39 at halftime, CUA drew to within 46-43 on two Limberiou free throws before Loyola embarked on a 9-2 run to go ahead, 55-45, with 14:47 to play. After layups by Riley Kirsch and Limberiou, the Cardinals had whittled the Greyhound lead to 65-60 at the 8:21 mark.

Cormier, who entered the game averaging 25.5 points, scored five of the next seven points to put Loyola back up by 12. A pair of Kyle Phanord charity stripers got the Cards to within 10, but that was as close as they would get.

CUA's Austin Calling posted season highs of eight points and seven rebounds. Cormier and Eric Laster collected seven rebounds apiece for Loyola, which held a narrow 35-33 advantage on the boards.

The Greyhounds made 53 percent of their shots, while the Cardinals succeeded on 43.4 percent. Both teams protected the ball well: CUA committed eight turnovers and Loyola six.

CUA opens Landmark Conference play against Drew University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
