WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's basketball team must like playing on the road, Corey Stanford in particular.

Stanford scored a game-high 25 points on Saturday afternoon at Baldwin Gym in Madison, N.J., to lead the Cardinals to a 67-60 victory over Drew University. It is the freshman's fourth game of at least 25 points on the road this season and pushes the Cards' road record to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the Landmark Conference.

CUA (14-7) remains tied for first place in the Landmark at 8-2. The Cards won have six straight against Drew and hold a 15-2 series advantage.

Bryson Fonville added 10 points, four rebounds, two steals and seven assists for CUA. Louis Khouri came off the bench to produce 10 points, five assists and seven rebounds. Austin Calling had eight points and five boards. Stanford led the team in rebounding with eight.

Jason Huelbig paced Drew (10-11, 4-6) with 20 points and eight boards. Brian McLaughlin scored 13 points and Ozan Yucetepe 10.

Stanford was 3 of 4 from the arc in the first half and had 15 points. The Cardinals' 33-28 lead following two Khouri free throws dropped to a deuce at halftime when McLaughlin sank a 3 with five seconds to go.

The Cards seized control right out of recess with a 14-2 outburst to surge ahead, 47-33. Stanford tallied five during the run and Calling four. Kyle Phanord attached the exclamation point with a 3-ball. Jared Prince made a layup with 9:35 to play to push the Cardinal bulge to 56-40.

The Rangers responded by scoring 10 straight points to draw within six. Stanford ended the drought with a 3, but Drew scored six consecutive points to find itself only down by three, 59-56, with a shade under five minutes left.

A Khouri trey gave CUA some breathing room, but two Huelbig's free throws brought the Rangers to 64-60 at the 32-second mark. After Kevin Phanord made it 65-60, Drew missed two free throws and a 3-pointer by Huelbig.

Stanford, who had 27 points at Susquehanna University and Goucher College, also scored 25 points at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He was 9 of 14 from the floor Saturday and 4 of 6 from long distance.
