WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's basketball received multiple preseason accolades from DIII News. The Cardinals were ranked No. 23 in the Top-25 poll, selected as the Landmark Conference favorite and had junior forward Jay Howard honored as the league Player of the Year and top-24 player in the country.
Catholic, the reigning Landmark champs, won 22 games last season and won 10-straight games leading in to its NCAA First Round matchup against Endicott, who was selected No. 24 in DIII News' preseason standings.
In addition to an exhibition game at Notre Dame to open the 2015-16 season, Catholic will play against nationally-recognized teams, No. 19 DeSales and (RV) Swarthmore.
Howard, who led the team and ranked second in the conference in scoring this year with 20.1 points per game, garners preseason All-America accolades for the second-straight season. The 6-foot-3 forward also led Catholic in field goal percentage (59.0) and free throws made per game (5.2), while ranking second in rebounds (6.8)
The Cardinals open regular season play at Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament in nearby Arlington, Va., on Saturday, November 19, and begins home action and Landmark play on Saturday, December 3 at 4 p.m.
