SOUTH BEND – The Catholic University of America played its season-opening exhibition game at the University of Notre Dame on Monday night, taking on a Fighting Irish team that has reached the past two Elite 8's
Junior forward Jay Howard showed why he is an All-America candidate for DIII in 2016-17, going for a double-double against UND with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Notre Dame played its starters until the 4:30 mark in the second half, coming away with the win, 103-48.
After a slow start in the first half, the Cardinals came out strong in the second and held the Irish to just 2-of-12 attempts from 3-point range after knocking down nine in the first 20 minutes.
Sophomore forward Andrew Wade came off the bench and looked strong in 19 minutes, scoring seven points with a rebound and a steal, going 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Catholic now has 11 days to prep for its season-opener against Hamilton in nearby Arlington, Va., in the first game of the Pablo Coto Tip-Off Tournament.
