WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's basketball team earned a Landmark victory over Goucher, 66-54, on Wednesday night inside the DuFour Center thanks to a strong defensive effort and a double-double from senior Louis Khouri.
The Cardinals' defense gave up season-low in points and held the Gophers to just 31-percent shooting from the field and only allowed seven attempted 3-pointers. Khouri finished the game with game highs in points (19), rebounds (10), 3-pointers (three) and free throws (six).
Catholic never trailed in the game and answered a Gopher run in the second as they pulled away late in the contest.
The Cards led by 20 at the half, 35-15, but Goucher rallied to make it a three-point game thanks to a 25-8 run to open the second stanza. The two teams then traded baskets before Khouri swayed momentum back to Catholic with a 3-pointer and started an 8-0 run and put the Cardinals back in the driver's seat.
Goucher also boasted three players with 13 points each, but could not combat an 11-point Catholic advantage at the free throw line and a seven-board edge on the glass.
The Cardinals hit the road this weekend as they travel to Drew to face the Rangers on Saturday at 4 p.m.
