WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's basketball team exploded for 50 points in the second half to comeback from a halftime deficit and defeat Landmark Conference foe Drew, 85-80.
Junior Jay Howard tied a career high with 28 points as he hit 12-of-22 field goals and added six rebounds in 39 minutes of action. Senior Louis Khouri was just behind Howard's lead with 27 points in 38 minutes and tallied four 3-pointers, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Catholic trailed by 14 points at the half, 49-35, as Drew tallied seven triples and shot 47 percent from the field.
Sophomore Andre Mitchell scored all of his 13 points in the second half as the Cardinals rallied for the comeback victory. Senior Jeff Holland also played all but two minutes in the second half and chipped in seven points and four steals.
The Cardinals got back into the game thanks to a 15-6 run to start the second half. Khouri then hit two free throws to tie up the game at 57-all.
Tied at 73-all, Howard put home a jumper with 3:25 to play to put the Cards ahead for good.
The game featured seven ties and eight lead changes.
Winners of two-straight, Catholic continues its road swing at Susquehanna this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
