Catholic Men's Basketball Rolls Past Goucher, 86-58

Towson, Md. — The Catholic University of America men's basketball team rolled to a victory at Goucher on Wednesday night, 86-58. Junior Jimmy Golaszewski posted an impressive double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds while senior Jay Howard scored a game-high 23 points with five rebounds and six assists.

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 6-3 in Landmark play and move into a four-way tie for second-place with Juniata, Moravian and Scranton, and sets up a pivotal home game this Saturday against first-place Drew on Hall of Fame weekend.

Golaszewski's career-high in rebounds accompanied three 3-pointers and a steal. He also went 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Howard went 7-of-13 from the field and 9-of-12 from the line and added two blocks. The all-time leading scorer in the Landmark Conference, he is now just 30 points away from 2,000 career points and would be just the third player in program history to reach the plateau.

Catholic built a 10-point lead at the break and used a 47-29 second half to coast to the win.

The Cardinals held Goucher to 33.3-percent shooting from the field and 24.1-percent from beyond the arc.

Catholic was extremely strong on the boards as they outrebounded the Gophers, 52-33, including 16-7 on the offensive glass.

Sophomore Brandon Easton came off the bench to join Howard and Golaszewski in double-digit scoring with 14 points. He went 4-of-8 from the field with two 3-pointers and added two boards, a block and a steal.

Junior Andre Mitchell and sophomore Riley Hayes each posted full lines. Mitchell had nine points with a 3-pointer along with four rebounds, three assists and five steals. Hayes pulled down eight rebounds and added five points, an assists two steals and a block.

After a 3-game road trip, Catholic now returns home to take on Drew. All fans are encouraged to wear their Cardinal best to "Red Out" the DuFour Center. All students in red will receive free pizza after the game at 2 p.m.
