NABC Honors Catholic with Team Academic Excellence Award

Kansas City, Mo. — The Catholic University of America men's basketball team was honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) with a Team Academic Excellence Award as announced on Wednesday. 

2018 is the sixth annual Team Academic Excellence Awards as created by the NABC Committee on Academics. These awards recognize outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season.

Catholic was led in the classroom by three seniors who became three-time Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll members in Billy Barnes, Jason Geter and Will Turner. Juniors Andre Mitchell and Jimmy Golaszewski each earned the award for the second time to make it five honor roll members for the Cardinals.

About the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)

Located in Kansas City, Missouri, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game.
