TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's basketball team was picked to finish fourth in the Landmark Conference preseason poll released on Friday.
The Cardinals, who finished 15-11 a year ago and 9-5 in the Landmark Conference, received 40 points, just four behind third-place Scranton. Moravian was picked as the preseason favorite with 70 points and seven first-place votes after claiming its first Landmark title last season. Drew came in second with 49 points.
Just 11 points separated second through fifth place as Susquehanna rounded out the top five with 38 points.
The Cardinals open Landmark Conference play on Saturday, December 1 at Drew. The first home conference contest comes on Saturday, January 5 against Moravian.
Since the Landmark Conference began prior to the 2007-08 season, Catholic is second in overall wins during that time with 202, trailing only Scranton who has 221. The Cardinals are also second in conference wins over that span with 104 and have won 65.8 percent of their games.
Catholic opens the season at home on Tuesday against cross town rival Marymount (Va.). Game time is at 7 p.m., at Franny Murray Court.
