Feb. 2, 2002

WASHINGTON - Matt Hilleary (Manassas, Va./Seton School) scored a season-high 27 points to lead Catholic to a 91-71 win at Gallaudet in a CAC matchup Saturday afternoon. The junior added 11 rebounds for his ninth double double of the season. Junior Kevin Wise (Newtown, Pa./Notre Dame [N.J.]) added 17 points as Catholic won its 19th consecutive game. Anton Jackson led the Bison with 16 points.

Catholic built a steady lead through most of the first half capped off by freshman Tim Burke (Wall, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) 3-pointer to give CUA a 36-17 lead at the 6:22 mark. But Gallaudet answered with a 10-0 run to cut the lead to nine points. Wise and teammate Blair Mills (Hebron, Md./Wicomico) would connect from long range and Will Jawando (Manchester, Md./St. John's [D.C.]) would score a tough bucket inside to help the Cardinals to a 51-33 halftime lead. Mills finished with nine points and five rebounds.

The Bison's Frank Jackson, the CAC's leading scorer and who did not play in the first meeting this season, was held to just 12 points. His brother, Anton, scored 13 of his 16 in the second half.

The Cardinals continued to build on their lead in the second stanza as CUA would go on a 14-4 run to lead by as much as 26 points. Junior Craig Avallone (Lincroft, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) helped the cause by scoring all 12 of his points in the second half.

Catholic shot 48.5% for the game while the Bison could only connect on 37.5% of its shots. This was the fourth time this season that as a team, CUA made 10 or more baskets from beyond the arc going 10-for-23 for the game.

Catholic's next game is Wednesday vs. Salisbury in a CAC tilt at the DuFour Center with an 8 p.m. tipoff.
