Hilleary nets career-high 32, but CUA falls at Goucher

TOWSON, MD - No. 4 Catholic suffered it first CAC loss of the season as Goucher upset the Cardinals, 88-75, Saturday night. The loss snaps a 11 game-win streak and 15-game streak against CAC opponents in regular season play. The Cardinals finish the regular season 22-3 and 13-1 in conference play.

Thabo Letsebe scored a team-high 23 points and added 10 rebounds to lead Goucher while Issac Brooks III chipped in 18 points.

Senior Matt Hilleary led Catholic with a career-high 32 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds and blocked four shots. Craig Avallone also scored in double figures with 11 points and handed out five assists.

The Cardinals took a 17-16 lead midway through the first half, before Goucher went on a 14-2 run. The Gophers led 37-29 at the break.

Goucher (15-9, 9-5 CAC) increased its lead to double digits in the second half and led by as many as 16 points before Adam Dickman's three-pointer could only get Catholic as close as 77-69 with just over two minutes to play. The Gophers would go 9-of-10 from the free-throw line down the stretch to seal the win.

Junior William Morley recorded his second double-double of the season, logging 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Catholic has already clinched the top seed in next week's CAC Tournament and will take on Gallaudet, the No. 8 seed. With the win by the Gophers, Goucher claims the No. 3 seed. First-round games are scheduled for Tuesday with a time to be determined.
