WASHINGTON - Four Cardinals finished in double figures as No. 5 Catholic defeated Goucher, 83-67, in a Capital Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at the DuFour Center. Senior Matt Hilleary and junior William Morley scored a game-high 20 points apiece for CUA.

Senior Craig Avallone added 18 points and sophomore Will Jawando chipped in 10 points.

The teams traded leads in the first half six times and saw no team lead by more than five points. But Blair Mills' layup on the fast break ignited a 16-4 run that broke a 21-21 tie just before the half. The junior finished with five points, three rebounds, and three assists as the Cardinals took a 38-27 lead into the break.

Clutch shooting in the second half by Avallone helped to end any type of Goucher momentum. A bucket by the Gopher's Pierre Jones got Goucher as close as 58-51 with 9:24 to play before Avallone drained back-to-back three-pointers to end the threat. The Cardinals would lead by as much as 20 points in the stanza.

Hilleary was two rebounds short of a double-double as the All American grabbed eight caroms and added two blocks. Morley hauled in four boards and hit all of his free-throws, going 8-of-8. Avallone would account for all three treys by CUA in the game.

Trevor Quinn and Pierre Jones netted a team-high 17 points apiece to lead Goucher (10-6, 4-2 CAC).

The Cardinals (15-2, 6-0 CAC) shot a season-best 56.8% from the floor compared to the Gophers' 46.7% effort.

Hilleary was honored before the game for scoring his 1,000-point last season versus Mary Washington.

Catholic resumes action on Wednesday, January 29th with a big CAC game at York College at 8 p.m.
